BERLIN
The euro is lower against the U.S. dollar as traders focused on Ireland's debt woes and its potential repercussions.
The 16-nation currency purchased $1.3850 in morning trading Tuesday, down from $1.3923 late in New York the night before.
The dollar slid over recent months as traders focused on the Federal Reserve's move to boost money supply in the U.S., which will help the economy but dilute the dollar's value. The currency has recovered recently against the euro as worries about debt in Ireland and elsewhere in Europe have reawakened concerns about the eurozone's economic prospects.
The British pound is down slightly to $1.6103 from $1.6132 in New York, while the dollar slipped to purchase 80.81 Japanese yen from 81.21 yen the night before.
