Troika in Athens for inspection as EU to revise Greek debt, deficit figures
ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Greece's finance minister is to meet with officials from the International Monetary Fund, European Commission and European Central Bank, who are in Athens to inspect the country's finances.
The meetings Monday are to review Greece' implementation of the three-year euro110 billion ($150 billion) loan agreement that rescued it from bankruptcy in May. It comes shortly before the European Union's statistics agency is to issue revised figures for Greece's debt and deficit for the years 2006-2009.
The agency is expected to revise the deficit for 2009 from the 13.6 percent to above 15 percent of gross domestic product. The revision is likely to mean Greece will not achieve the original target of lowering the deficit to 8.1 percent of GDP by the end of this year.
